Tour of the Welsh Marches
Sunday 14 June - Friday 19 June
In 2020 the Historic Roses Group will be offering members a tour of some fabulous gardens in the Welsh Marches. The gardens have been selected for their ambiance, design and charm with many of them having good collections of roses.
We will be staying in the recently refurbished Green Dragon Hotel located in the centre of Hereford. All tours will begin and end at the hotel.
Sun 14 June: meet for complimentary drinks followed by dinner at the hotel.
Tues 16: Shucknall Court with its extensive collection of roses. Picnic lunch and then an afternoon at the Laskett Gardens, historian Sir Roy Strong’s iconic creation.
Wed 17: Bryan’s Ground, HRG member David Wheeler’s much featured garden and arboretum. David is also the owner and editor of the Hortus Journal. We will have lunch at Bryan’s Ground.
In the afternoon we go to Ashley Farm where, apart from a beauteous garden, tea awaits us. We return to the hotel and then we go for a really special and unique tour of Hereford Cathedral gardens. After the tour we have a special and exclusive dinner within the cathedral precincts. The cathedral is a short walk from our hotel.
Fri 19: Visit Hampton Court Castle gardens. These amazing new gardens have been designed by Simon Dorrell whom we will meet at Bryan’s Ground. Lunch is not included but there is a very good café. It is intended that we say our ‘farewells’ after this garden visit.
The tour includes all bed and breakfasts, three lunches plus five dinners including the special cathedral dinner. There will also be many morning coffees and afternoon teas.
Cost for the tour: £670 per person sharing a double or single room.
For a single room which includes the supplement the cost is £730.
