The Historic Roses Group recognises the importance of unique and beautiful older roses.
Our aims are:
- to promote the conservation, cultivation, and distribution of old garden roses, roses of historical importance, roses no longer in general commercial cultivation or widely grown, rare or unusual roses, species (wild) roses and species hybrids
- to advance knowledge of historic roses and to foster public interest in them by publishing information, and holding meetings and seminars, and participating in shows; etc
- to explore the history of old roses and promote further research
- to advise appropriate organisations on the suitability of historic roses for use in the conservation, restoration and reconstruction of historic gardens and cultural landscapes
- to encourage the creation and maintenance of links with similar groups in the UK and other countries
The HRG was founded over thirty years ago in 1990 by members of the Royal National Rose Society (RNRS) particularly interested in older roses of historical importance. These include species (wild) roses and their hybrids, rare or unusual roses, and those no longer widely grown.
Today the HRG is a friendly international group of rose enthusiasts, run by volunteers and funded entirely by subscriptions from our members throughout the world. Click here for more information on joining us.
