Pemberton rose collection at St Francis Hospice: Helping in the garden on Thursday, August 1

Thursday 1 August @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm

Leo Watermeier, an HRG member who is usually to be found in the gardens of Armstrong Park in New Orleans, recently visited the collection of Pemberton roses at St Francis Hospice. Leo arranged to spend Thursday, 1 August helping in the garden with weeding and dead-heading, or as one of our committee members prefers to say, “removing spent blooms.”

Leo has suggested that HRG members who live nearby might like to join him for the day or even a few hours. If you would like to do so, please bring your own secateurs and aim to be there any time after 10.30 am. There is a café that serves lunch and snacks.

On arrival, please see the manager, Chris Franklin, who will introduce you to the gardener, Paul Williams.

You may be interested to know that not far away is Warley Place, the home of Ellen Willmott. The house is no longer there, and the gardens are now a wildlife reserve.
